After the completion of the expedition recounted in this previous blog, Yang Xiao remained behind in Bingzhongluo for a few days. Joined by A Dou, the best of our guides/porters from that expedition, he followed what Frank Kingdon-Ward called “the Path of Terror” to find the alpine lake our group had tried and failed to reach. I’ll let the pictures do most of the talking…

It’s very rare for any human to follow this trail. Yang Xiao said that in places he could see no trace of a path, but A Dou knew better. If anybody knows what kind of snake this is, please do tell.

Chugan Lake is 3,900 meters above sea level and approx 1 square kilometer in area.
